ZrenjaninZrenjanin (zrĕnyäˈnēn) [key], city (1991 pop. 81,316), NE Serbia, in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, on the Begej River. A river port and a railway center, it has industries that produce foodstuffs, sugar, beer, and other spirits. It was known as Nagybecskerek until its transfer (1918; confirmed 1920) from Hungary to Yugoslavia, and it was subsequently named Veliki Bečkerek (until the 1930s) and Petrovgrad (until 1947).
