Fargo (1996)

McDormand earned a 1996 Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Marge Gunderson, an unflappable, very pregnant cop who's equally at home solving a triple homicide and snuggling with her husband. The Coen brothers are at their quirky best here and the Midwestern settings are sharply observed.
