Eldridge Cleaver Age: 62
writer and activist who was a Black Panther leader in the 1960s and achieved fame with his book Soul on Ice. The former advocate of violence to win power for the American black population changed his philosophy in the mid–1970s and turned his focus to religion and other less controversial issues. Died: May 1, 1998.
