Beppu

Beppu (bāp'pOO) [key], city (1990 pop. 130,334), Oita prefecture, NE Kyushu, Japan, on Beppu Bay. It is a major tourist resort noted for its numerous hot springs. It is also the site of many volcanic research institutes and national medical facilities.
