Couper, James Hamilton

Couper, James Hamilton (kOO'pur) [key], 17941866, American planter of Georgia, grad. Yale, 1814. Influential in promoting agricultural research and experimentation, he was a pioneer in the cultivation of rice, long-staple cotton, and sugarcane and introduced new plants, including Bermuda grass.
