Elliott Gould

(Elliott Goldstein)
actor
Born: 8/29/1938
Birthplace: Brooklyn, New York

A child model, Elliott Gould launched his performing career at Catskills resorts. He began his Broadway days at the age of eighteen, soon finding personal as well as professional success starring opposite Barbra Streisand; they married in 1963, though professional rivalry dissolved the union four years later. After sundry unremarkable film roles Gould found a breakthrough in Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice (1969) and won an Academy Award nomination. He then appeared as Trapper John in M*A*S*H (1970) and has since has been ubiquitous—in the 1980s and 1990s he continues to make several films a year. His latest film appearance is Ocean's Eleven (2001). He has a recurring role as the father of Ross and Monica on the TV show Friends.
