Rock singer who is remembered for her passionate, wailing voice. She sang solo and with the blues-rock group Big Brother and the Holding Company and her recordings include “Piece of My Heart” (1968) and “Me and Bobby McGee” (1971). She died of a heroin overdose. Died: 10/4/1970
