His films include The Big Chill (1983), A Fish Called Wanda (1988), Dave (1993), In & Out (1997), and A Midsummer Night's Dream, (1999). His Broadway performances include Pirates of Penzance (1980) and On the Twentieth Century (1978).

He is married to actress Phoebe Cates.
