Emmy Award-winning television, film and stage actor best known for his portrayal of Rob Petrie, the lanky, bumbling comedy writer on The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–66). His films include Bye Bye Birdie (1963), Mary Poppins (1964), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968). His other television credits include Diagnosis Murder (1992–2001).
