Eve Arden

Best known for her portrayals of wisecracking, world-weary women, she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Mildred Pierce (1945). She also created the role of the title character in Our Miss Brooks, a popular series first on radio (1948–56), then on television (1952–56), and later on film (1956).
