Gillian Anderson

actress
Born: 8/9/1968
Birthplace: Chicago

Best known as the super-skeptical special agent Scully on television's The X-files (1993–present), this fiery redhead bears little resemblance to her counterpart's character. She was a rebellious teen, sporting safety pins in her cheeks and getting arrested for trying to glue shut the door to her high school just shy of her graduation. Fortunately, she found a less troublesome outlet for her emotions when she turned to theater, pursuing a theater degree at DePaul University in Chicago. She has won Golden Globe and Emmy awards as Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Dana Scully, which she took to the big screen in The X-Files movie (1998). Her other films include The Mighty (1998), Playing by Heart (1999), and The House of Mirth (2000). She plays Lady Honoria Dedlock in the BBC miniseries of Charles Dickens's Bleak House (2005).
