The rapper's murder in 1997 highlighted the on-going west coast-east coast rap war. Under Bad Boy Records, B.I.G. produced the hit “What's the 411?”. His album Ready to Die (1994) pushed him to the forefront of the hip-hop scene and quickly went platinum. B.I.G. was named Rapper of the Year at the 1995 Billboard Awards. And the single “One More Chance” was named Billboard's Rap Single of the Year. B.I.G. was murdered following in a drive-by shooting at the Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles. The case has not been solved.
