Hedy Lamarr

Austrian-born film actress in the thirties and forties who won notoriety by appearing nude in the Czech film Extase (1932). Louis B. Mayer convinced her she could only make good films in America, so she came to the U.S. and made many films, enjoying brief stardom in the early forties. Her contract with MGM lapsed after WWII, though she continued making films in the U.S. and abroad. Some film credits include Lady of the Tropics (1939), Comrade X (1940), Boom Town (1940), Ziegfield Girl (1941), White Cargo (1942), The Strange Woman (1946) and Dishonored Lady (1942).
