British-born American journalist and radio/TV personality whose commentary on American culture had an audience in both the U.S. and the U.K. A correspondent for Britain's Guardian(1948–72), Cooke's programs included the weekly BBC radio show Letter from America and British television's Masterpiece Theatre (1971–92), made popular by his sophisticated wit. Died: 3/30/2004
