Rita Mae Brown

An early member of National Organization for Women, Brown resigned when the oganization tried to surpress her vocal pro-Lesbian stance. Brown's two-year relationship (1979–81) with tennis star Martina Navratilova added to her notoriety. Today, Brown continues to fight discrimination on the basis of race, class, or sexual orientation. Her works include: Rubyfruit Jungle (1973), Six of One (1978), Southern Discomfort (1982), Rest in Pieces (1992), and Riding Shotgun (1996).
