Director known for his offbeat, imaginative and often darkly comic films, such as Beetlejuice(1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (1994), and Mars Attacks! (1996). After studying animation at the California Institute of the Arts and working for Walt Disney, Burton made his mark in 1995 with the quirky comedy Pee-Wee's Great Adventure. His production of the high-grossing Batman films (1989, 1992, 1995, 1999) established him as a major writer, director and producer in Hollywood. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and James and the Giant Peach (1996) are among his acclaimed animated features. In the horror/suspense genre, Sleepy Hollow appeared in 1999.
