Joan Plowright

A stage actress of distinction, Plowright has performed most of the major roles in the classical theater repertoire. She made her screen debut in Moby Dick (1956) and has appeared in several films including The Entertainer (1960, with Laurence Olivier), Three Sisters (1970), and Avalon (1990). Recent films include Tea with Mussolini (1999), Callas Forever (2001), and Bringing Down the House (2003). She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Enchanted April (1991) and was praised for her performance in the TV movie Stalin (1992). Plowright was married to actor Laurence Olivier from 1960 until his death in 1989.
