Comic actress whose career bridged the silent era and the emergence of “ talkies,” and was continuously promoted by her long-time lover, the publisher William Randolph Hearst. Davies originally followed her sisters into Vaudeville, but then went on to appear in more than 50 films, including Peg o' My Heart (1933) and The Cardboard Lover (1928).
