This dashing blond actor made his first significant screen appearance as the photographer in The Killing Fields (1984). He rose to fame as Helena Bonham Carter's love interest in A Room with a View (1986) and has since played a wide range of roles in films such as Warlock (1989), Impromptu (1991, as Franz Liszt), Naked Lunch (1991), The Turn of the Screw (1992), The Browning Version (1994), and Leaving Las Vegas (1995).
