Sheedy was the picture of the precocious child. Before reaching adolescence, she had danced with the American Ballet Theater, reviewed movies for The New York Times and The Village Voice, and had published a successful children's book, She Was Nice to Mice (1975). Sheedy was a popular star of the “Brat Pack” films of the 1980s, particularly Bad Boys (1983, opposite Sean Penn), The Breakfast Club (1985), and St. Elmo's Fire (1985). She appeared in Amnesia (1997) and the critically acclaimed High Art (1998). Other films include I'll Take You There (1999).
