The quintessence of Generation X, Stewart began his entertainment career in standup comedy in New York. He broke into TV as the host of Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater, moved to MTV's You Wrote It, You Watch It, and then became host of The Jon Stewart Show (1993–95). Stewart also hosted Comedy Central's Daily Show in 1999. He appeared in the films Dancing About Architecture (1998), The Faculty (1998), Big Daddy (1999), and Death to Smoochy (2002).
