He broke into acting rather late, at age 39, but once in, Walsh quickly established himself in both small and big screen movies. In his short, 15-year acting career, Walsh appeared in 59 telefilms and feature films including Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Tequila Sunrise (1988), Hoffa (1992), A Few Good Men (1992), as John Ehrlichman in Nixon (1995), the critically acclaimed Sling Blade (1996), and his last film, The Negotiator (1998). In 1997, Walsh was nominated for an Emmy Award as best supporting actor for his portrayal of Ray Percy in Hope.
