Isaac Kauffman Funk lexicographer, publisherBorn: 9/10/1839 Birthplace: Clifton, Ohio After 9 years as a Lutheran minister, he later began a business in New York producing materials for ministers. In 1877, A. W. Wagnalls joined him, and the company widened its scope to include reference works, including the Standard Dictionary of the English Language published in 1893, which Funk planned, supervised, and edited.
