Anna Wintour

magazine editor
Born: 11/3/1949
Birthplace: London, England

So deep was her interest in clothes, Wintour decided against going to college, instead getting a job at Harper's Bazaar (later Harper's & Queen) magazine as a fashion assistant in 1970. Within a few years she had become deputy fashion editor. In 1976 Wintour became a fashion editor at the American edition of Harper's Bazaar. After several other jobs, she became editor of British Vogue in 1986 and editor of House & Garden in 1987. Wintour redesigned the magazine, adding more fashion content, which proved controversial, although it increased circulation. Less than a year later, Wintour was named editor of American Vogue. She refocused the magazine, increasing sales and circulation.
