98 Degrees

a cappella boy band

The quartet from Ohio got together after Jeff Timmons, who'd moved to LA to pursue a solo career, asked his former classmates from the Cincinnati School for Creative and Performing Artists, Justin Jeffre and Nick Lachey, to join him. The foursome was completed a short time later by Drew Lachey. After entering several talent contests where they failed to make an impression, their big break came when they attracted notice by crashing the backstage area of a Boyz II Men show. Offered a chance to sing on a local radio station as a result, their appearance earned them a contract with Motown. “Invisible Man,” their debut single, went gold in 1997. Their self-titled debut album came out in the same year. 98° and Rising followed in 1998, and This Christmas in 1999. Revelation, featuring the single “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” was released in 2000.
