acclaimed actor who was best known for his Broadway portrayal of Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, a role that won him a Tony Award. His work in TV proved equally successful—he won Emmy Awards for his roles in the miniseries The Thorn Birds (1983) and the drama series A Year in the Life (1988).
