NAPHEN, Henry Francis, a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Ireland August 14, 1852; immigrated to the United States with his parents, who settled in Lowell, Mass.; was educated by private tutors and also attended the public schools; was graduated from Harvard University in 1878; attended the Boston University Law School; was admitted to the bar in 1880 and commenced practice in Boston; member of the school committee of Boston 1882-1885; member of the State senate in 1885 and 1886; appointed bail commissioner by the justices of the superior court; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1899-March 3, 1903); was not a candidate for renomination in 1902; died in Boston, Mass., June 8, 1905; interment in Calvary Cemetery.
