LEWIS, Joseph, Jr., a Representative from Virginia; born in that State in 1772; member of the State house of delegates 1799-1803; elected as a Federalist to the Eighth and to the six succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1803-March 3, 1817); chairman, Committee on District of Columbia (Tenth and Twelfth Congresses); again a member of the State house of delegates in 1817 and 1818; died in Clifton, Va., March 30, 1834.
