On this date in 1987, slow moving thunderstorms poured on greater Chicago, Illinois. O'Hare Airport reported an 18-hour rainfall total of 9.35 inches. The flooding that resulted caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. The Kennedy Expressway, as well as many other roads, was closed.
