On this date in 1921, the Columbia Gorge ice storm finally ended. The Columbia River Highway in Oregon was blocked by 54 inches of sleet and snow, halting all traffic from Walla Walla, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. In addition, nine trains were forced to stop and sat idle for a number of days.
