Naruszewicz, Adam Stanislaw

Naruszewicz, Adam Stanislaw äˈdäm stänēsˈläf näro͞oshĕˈvēch [key], 1733–96, Polish historian. A Jesuit, he became, after the suppression of his order, bishop of Smolensk (1788) and of Lutsk (1790). At the court of Stanislaus II he held a position similar to poet laureate. Naruszewicz organized extensive historical research in the archives and wrote a history (7 vol., 1780–1824) of the Polish nation.
