Stevenson, Burton Egbert

Stevenson, Burton Egbert, 1872–1962, American author, compiler and librarian, b. Chillicothe, Ohio, studied (1890–93) at Princeton. He was founder (1918) of the American Library in Paris and director (1918–20, 1925–30). Besides his well-known compilations, which include the Home Book of Verse (1912; many later editions) and the Home Book of Quotations (1934, rev. 1946), he wrote travel books, children's books, novels, and mystery stories.
