Dobell, Sydney Thompson

Dobell, Sydney Thompson dōbĕlˈ [key], 1824–74, English poet. He is best known for the melodramatic, extravagantly emotional poem Balder (1853). In 1855 he published jointly with Alexander Smith (1830–67) some sonnets on the Crimean War.
