Du Bartas, Guillaume de Salluste

Du Bartas, Guillaume de Salluste gēyōm´ də sälüst´ dü bärtäs´ [key], 1544–90, French poet. A Huguenot soldier under Henry IV, Du Bartas is known chiefly for his epic poems La Sepmaine ou, Creation du monde (1578) and the unfinished La Seconde Sepmaine (1584). In lofty verse they retell the main events of the Bible from a Protestant viewpoint.
