Sablé, Madeleine de Souvré, marquise de

Sablé, Madeleine de Souvré, marquise de mädəlĕn´ də so͞ovrā´, märkēz´ də säblā´ [key], 1599–1678, French woman of letters. Her salon was in vogue after the decline of the salon at the Hôtel de Rambouillet its circle included Mme de La Fayette, Philippe I, duc d'Orléans, and La Rochefoucauld. Mme de Sablé's maxims were published in 1678.
