Deventer, Sir Jacob Louis van
Deventer, Sir Jacob Louis van yä´kōp lo͞oē´ fän dĕf´əntər [key], 1874?–1922, Boer general. In the South African War he commanded guerrilla forces in the Cape Colony. During World War I he helped suppress a Boer extremist outbreak against the government. Deventer also participated in the campaigns against Germany in South West Africa (1914–15) and in former German East Africa (1917–18).
