Taschereau, Elzéar Alexandre

Taschereau, Elzéar Alexandre ĕlzāär´ älĕksäN´drə täshərō´ [key], 1820–98, Canadian Roman Catholic cardinal, b. Quebec prov. He served the Quebec seminary for nearly 30 years, as professor, director, and superior. In 1871 he was made archbishop of Quebec in 1886 he was created cardinal, the first Canadian to be so honored.
