Touba

Touba to͞oˈbä [key], town (1988 pop. 23,751), Diourbel prov., W Senegal. The terminus of a branch line from main Dakar-Niger RR, it is located in peanut-growing region. Touba is the religious center of the Mourides, an Islamic Sufi brotherhood founded (1887) by Sheik Amadou Bamba Mbacke, and is the site of an annual pilgrimage. The Mourides' Grand Mosque dominates the town.
