Waal

Waal väl [key], main arm of the Rhine River, 52 mi (84 km) long, branching off the Rhine near the German border and flowing W through central Netherlands, past Nijmegen to join the Maas (Meuse) near Gorinchem. The joined rivers form the upper Merwede.
