Huila, Nevado del

Huila, Nevado del nāvä´dō dĕl hwē´lä [key], snow-capped volcanic mountain, 17,594 ft (5,364 m) high, on the Huila-Tolima-Cauca dept. border, S central Colombia, in the N Andes . Located c.50 mi (80 km) SE of Cali, Huila consists of a chain of six volcanic cones, the highest of which is Pico Central it is the highest mountain in the Cordillera Central range and the second highest in Colombia. Huila erupted in the mid-1500s, then was dormant until 2007.
