Clarksville

Clarksville, city (2020 pop. 166,722), seat of Montgomery co., NW Tenn., on the Cumberland and Red rivers, in a farm, livestock, and tobacco region; platted 1784, inc. as a city 1855. It is a market and processing center for dark and burley tobacco. There is meatpacking and zinc processing and the manufacture of snuff, footwear, clothing, brake systems, and cooling and heating equipment. Austin Peay State Univ. is in Clarksville. Part of U.S. Fort Campbell is within the city limits. Dunbar Cave is to the northeast.
