As of the 2020 census, the state's population was:White alone, 70.6% ; Black alone, 22.2%; Hispanic of Latino, 9.8%; Asian alone, 3.2%, Native American and Alaskan native, 0.1%.; and Two or More Races, 2.3% Capital, Raleigh. Largest city, Charlotte. Statehood, Nov. 21, 1789 (12th of the original 13 states to ratify the Constitution). Highest pt., Mt. Mitchell, 6,684 ft (2,039 m); lowest pt., sea level.
