Rock began his career by working the comedy clubs in New York City. Discovered by Eddie Murphy, he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live (1990-93). His 1996 HBO special, Bring the Pain, won him a wide audience and two Emmy awards. The Chris Rock Show (1997–2000) earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding writing (1998). Rock's movie appearances include a prominent part in Lethal Weapon 4 (1998), voice work as the guinea pig in Doctor Dolittle (1998) and Marty the zebra in Madagascar (2005) and Madagascar 2 (2008), Nurse Betty (2000), costarring with Anthony Hopkins in Bad Company (2002), and starring in the political comedy Head of State (2003). He hosted the 77th Academy Awards Show.
