100 million dollar flood
On this date in 1978, widespread flooding hit southeast Louisiana and Mississippi. Heavy rain from persistent thunderstorms brought accumulations of up to 13 1/2 inches of rain in and around the New Orleans area, causing the worst flooding in 30 years. Property damage was estimated at more than $100 million.
