Off coast, off guard
On this date in 1990, a fast-moving cold front caused a rapid change in the weather at the east end of the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Washington. The sunny and calm conditions quickly changed into winds of 60 mph and ten-foot waves. Three fishing boats capsized in the heavy seas and five people drowned.
