Film and Emmy Award winning television actress best known for her role as Nurse Carol Hathaway on the hospital drama ER (1994–2000), Margulies first appeared on the big screen as a prostitute in the Steven Seagal movie Out for Justice (1991). Her character on ER wasn't even supposed to survive the pilot (she was scripted to commit suicide), but test audiences liked her so much the producers asked her to become a regular member of the cast. Margulies has been able to pick and choose her feature film appearances, which include Paradise Road (1997), Traveller (1997), A Price Above Rubies (1998), The Newton Boys (1998) and What's Cooking? (2000).
