LEAVY, Charles Henry, a Representative from Washington; born on a farm near York, York County, Pa., February 16, 1884; moved to Kansas City, Mo., with his parents in 1887; attended the public schools of Missouri, the Warrensburg (Mo.) Normal School, the Bellingham (Wash.) Normal School, and the Kansas City (Mo.) School of Law; taught school near Independence, Mo., 1903-1906, and at Everson, Touchet, Kahlotus, and Connell, Wash., 1906-1913; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1912 and commenced practice in Newport, Pend Oreille County, Wash.; prosecuting attorney of Pend Oreille County, Wash., 1915-1918; moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1918; special assistant United States district attorney for eastern Washington 1918-1921; prosecuting attorney of Spokane County, Wash., 1922-1926; served as judge of the superior court of the State of Washington 1926-1936; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth, Seventy-sixth, and Seventy-seventh Congresses and served from January 3, 1937, until his resignation on August 1, 1942, having been appointed United States district judge of the western district of Washington and served until his retirement September 1, 1952; died in Tacoma, Wash., September 25, 1952; interment in Mountain View Memorial Park, Tacoma, Wash.
