ASHLEY, Delos Rodeyn, a Representative from Nevada; born at The Post, Ark., February 19, 1828; received an academic education; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1849 and practiced; moved to California in 1849 and continued the practice of law in Monterey in 1850; district attorney 1851-1853; member of the State house of representatives in 1854 and 1855; served in the State senate in 1856 and 1857; State treasurer of California in 1862 and 1863; moved to Virginia City, Storey County, Nev., in 1864 and continued the practice of law; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses (March 4, 1865-March 3, 1869); was not a candidate for renomination in 1868; moved to Pioche, Lincoln County, Nev., in 1871 and resumed the practice of law; due to failing health moved to San Francisco, Calif., in 1872, and lived in retirement until his death there July 18, 1873; interment in Calvary Cemetery.
