Edward Walter CURLEY, Congress, NY (1873-1940)
CURLEY, Edward Walter, a Representative from New York; born in Easton, Northampton County, Pa., May 23, 1873; moved to New York City with his parents in 1874; attended the public schools and the College of the City of New York; engaged in the building industry 1892-1900, and in the buildersâ and contractorsâ machinery and equipment business 1900-1916; member of the New York City board of aldermen from January 1, 1916, until November 5, 1935, when he resigned, having been elected to Congress; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Anthony J. Griffin; reelected to the Seventy-fifth and Seventy-sixth Congresses and served from November 5, 1935, until his death in New York City on January 6, 1940; interment in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, N.Y.
