TAYLOR, Gary Eugene (Gene), a Representative from Mississippi; born in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, La., September 17, 1953; graduated from De LaSalle High School, New Orleans, La., 1971; B.A., Tulane University, New Orleans, La., 1976; graduate work, University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Miss.; United States Coast Guard Reserve, 1971-1984; member of the Bay St. Louis, Miss., city council, 1981-1983; member of the Mississippi state senate, 1984-1989; unsuccessful candidate for election to the One Hundred First Congress in 1988; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred First Congress by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Larkin I. Smith, reelected to the ten succeeding Congresses (October 17, 1989-January 3, 2011); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Twelfth Congress in 2010.
